I started blogging in 2015 as a way to talk about my struggles and experiences as a motherless daughter. At the time, my site was called “Roots & Wings,” and I hoped to connect with other women who lost their mothers at a young age and even young girls just beginning their journey as a motherless daughter.
When I lost my mom at 19, I didn’t have anyone to talk to who understood the loss I was experiencing at that age. In beginning this blog, I wanted to potentially be a safe place for young women to turn to if they needed to talk.
I will always remember the first time I received a message from a girl who stumbled across my blog and felt comfortable enough to open up her heart to me. I could relate to everything she shared, and reading her words made me feel like the time and energy I put in to this blog was worth it. If I could be there for one person, it was worth it.
I keep her note saved as a screenshot on my phone if I ever need a reminder as to why I started this whole thing.
Before I knew it, I was building an online network of women who shared similar experiences as me, and I loved it. For the first time since losing my mom I felt like I was able to connect to others who became motherless daughters at a young age — and there are far too many of us out there.
I began to desire more for my blog, though. So, I began brainstorming ways I can inject more of myself into the site. I began writing about things I love and dislike, telling stories about weekend adventures, reviewing restaurants and craft beers, and sharing glimpses of my life.
I even gave the blog a new name. In 2016, Dammit, Hali (as you know it now) was born and it had an official logo.
I have had so much fun working on and growing this blog over the years — it’s my baby and I take great pride in everything I share on here.
That’s why I am excited to announce Dammit, Hali’s new logo and branding as we enter this new year full of wonderful possibilities.
Actually, to say I’m excited about the new look is an understatement.
For the last several months, I have been crafting and perfecting what you see above to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. I have searched through fonts, saved countless color swatches, spent hours cultivating inspiration, and critiqued every website theme imaginable to find the perfect one.
I hope you enjoy this new look as much as I do. I have worked hard on it, and I think the commitment I’ve given this project shines through in the finished product.
I truly believe that when you invest in yourself and what you believe in, the happiness and pride in self you get in return are plentiful.
What started as a hobby nearly three years ago has grown to become a passion, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for my little piece of the web.
