Happy Wednesday, friends! I have officially been in California for one week, and I’m going to be honest with you … I’m getting a little homesick. I wonder if my dogs miss me as much as I miss them?
Anywho. This past week has been amazing and filled with yummy food and wonderful sights.
We still have two days left before we’re back home, but I wanted to go ahead and share one of my favorite places I visited during this adventure: The Anaheim Packing House.
From what I’ve read, the Packing House was built in 1919 at the edge of downtown Anaheim and was a center of commerce for the area.
“Local farmers arrived to unload trucks of freshly picked citrus to begin the process of washing, grading, and eventual packing into wooden crates. Once completed, the crated and labeled citrus would be loaded onto rail cars parked on the side of the building to be shipped nationwide.” {anaheimpackingdistrict.com}
Now restored, the Packing House is a lively spot housing a variety of cafes, bars, and kiosks.
Walking in, you get a sense of community.
Light beams down from the top of the atrium, making this large, market-style space warm and inviting.
That’s a big … rooster. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I already made that joke. I’m still laughing about it, though, so I wanted to make it again.
I know, I know, I’m a nerd.
Honestly, this place is an Instagrammers version of heaven with the natural light that pours in and all the pretty things. Like, how cute are these tubs of fruit???
The market kiosks on the top level carry a variety of fun items, from handmade toys, postcards and greeting cards, candles, and these soaps. If I’m being honest, I only took a picture because the one label says “Big Ass Beer Soap.”
For breakfast, I grabbed a cinnamon sugar dornut and coffee from Pandor Bakery. Yes, it tastes as good as it looks.
“Your body is not a temple, it’s an amusement park.”
Truer words have never been spoken. Also, I’m pretty sure the part that’s covered up with oranges says “Enjoy the ride.” If so, I’m pretty bummed that you can’t see it. Because, life motto.
Naturally, I had to grab a beer from The Iron Press. As someone visiting from one of biggest craft beer states in our country, I have to give The Iron Press praises for their extensive draft list and knowledgeable staff.
I also had my first real pho experience here, which opened the door for all kinds of cheesy puns using the word “pho.”
But, seriously, Sawleaf Vietnamese Cafe is pho-king delicious.
Next stop, dessert at Popbar. These little beauties of handcrafted gelato, sorbetto, and yogurt on a stick are made fresh daily with real fruit. This best part? They’re customizable with dippings.
I got the pineapple pop dipped in coconut shavings. Yum!
“Eat like no one is watching” has also been my motto this week.
That’s all for now, friends! I can’t wait to share more from our vacation with you when I get home.
Until then, make sure to follow my journey on Instagram {at}halidawnschaefer.
