Wow, that was a mouthful.
Today on the blog I am excited to share with you how I created nine outfits out of five pieces of clothing at Old Navy — my favorite store right now for fall style.
I have said this over and over again, but if you haven’t tried layering yet, you have to! It is such an easy way to maximize the wear of what you have in your closet. Also, if you think in terms of layering while you’re shopping for fall and winter fashion, it makes the shopping trip a little more efficient because you’re able to piece together multiple outfits at once.
What I like about all the items I’m sharing with you today is that they’re all neutral, but they’re not your standard black and white color palette. I had a lot of fun mixing up my style a little bit and trying on a couple of things I wouldn’t typically gravitate to.
Outfit No. 1
High-Rise Stevie Ponte-Knit Pants + Classic Chambray Shirt
If I’m being honest, I didn’t think I would like these pants. They feel like really thick leggings, have an elastic waistband, and have a center seam in the front and back of the legs — all things that I typically stay away from. However, there was something about these pants that drew me in and I am so glad I picked them up. They are some of the most comfortable bottoms I have ever worn, and they are versatile in that they can be dressed up or dressed down. Here, I have simply paired them with a medium wash chambray blouse (you know I love my chambray). I am wearing my regular size (medium) in the pants and I sized up one size in the shirt because they didn’t have my normal medium. The large is baggy, but it fits — I would have preferred a medium, though.
Outfit No. 2
High-Rise Stevie Ponte-Knit Pants + Classic Chambray Shirt + Plush-Knit-Long-Line Sweater
OK, same base outfit, but now I’m layering on this ultra comfy camel-colored sweater. I feel like the sweater really brings the outfit together, and I would totally wear this to work. I will say, I picked up a medium in the sweater because that’s all they had in store, but it is very baggy in my arms (even with it being layered over the chambray shirt). I would prefer a small.
Outfit No. 3
High-Rise Stevie Ponte-Knit Pants + Classic Chambray Shirt + Classic Boat-Neck Sweater
Now on to the last combination for this set and my personal favorite. I swapped out the long-line open-front cardigan for this off-white boat-neck sweater and am obsessed with the results. This is a great fall and winter workwear option, especially if you toss on some knee-high boots.
Outfit No. 4
Relaxed Shirred Tunic Shirt + High-Rise Stevie Ponte-Knit Pants
Holy moly, this collarless striped tunic is amazing. I grabbed it on a whim, not expecting to like it as much as I do. I appreciate the split neckline and the button cuffs — they give it a little something extra, ya know? I also love that it is a tunic top and I can wear it by itself with the Stevie knit pants if I want.
Outfit No. 5
Relaxed Shirred Tunic Shirt + High-Rise Stevie Ponte-Knit Pants + Classic Boat-Neck Sweater
I call this my preppy casual look. The boat-neck sweater looks great over the striped tunic, especially since you can just barely see the neckline of the tunic peeking out of the sweater. Don’t forget to give your sleeves a roll so you can see more of the stripes!
Outfit No. 6
Relaxed Shirred Tunic Shirt + High-Rise Stevie Ponte-Knit Pants + Plush-Knit-Long-Line Sweater
This combination is also one that I would wear to work and is great for a more casual office setting. I would slide on a pair of black boots or taupe booties to complete the outfit.
Outfit No. 7
The foundation for this next series of outfits is this plaid swing shirt dress in gray. Which, by itself, is adorable, but I LOVE how it looks paired with the sweaters from this try-on. For reference, I grabbed a size up from my normal size in this dress for added length, but because it is so flowy, my normal size would have fit me much better.
Outfit No. 8
Plaid Swing Shirt Dress + Classic Boat-Neck Sweater
I can’t take credit for this particular pairing. One of my favorite bloggers, Lauren McBride, styled this in an Instagram Story recently and I fell in love with. So, I needed to try it on myself. I will say, I likely wouldn’t wear this combination to the office because the dress is still a little too short for professional attire (in my opinion). However, I would definitely rock this on the weekend for when my husband and I are running errands. Toss on some booties and you’re good to go!
Outfit No. 9
Plaid Swing Shirt Dress + Plush-Knit-Long-Line Sweater
This, too, is one of my favorite combinations. It is extremely comfy, and if you pair if with some boots, you’ll have the perfect fall outfit. I was hesitant at first to wear the camel-colored sweater with the gray dress, but I think they work really well together. Again, I likely wouldn’t wear this to the office, but it is definitely a great weekend option.
. . .
That’s it! I hope you enjoyed this try-on and were able to get some fall style inspo out of it. Let me know if anything caught your eye!
