True story: The last time I shopped for bras and panties, the cashier at Victoria’s Secret berated me for my “comfortable” choices.

I kid you not, our conversation as she rang up my undergarments went like this:

I kid you not, our conversation as she rang up my undergarments went like this:

Her: “How old are you?”

Me: “28”

Her: “Are you married?”

Me: “Yes.”

Her: “Honey, you know we carry bras and panties for women your age?”

Me: “Excuse me?”

Her: “These full coverage things are way too old for someone as young as you.”

Me: “I go for comfort over sexy, but thanks for your concern.”

End scene.

It is true, though, I will choose comfortable, full-coverage underwear over lacy brassieres and thongs any day of the week.

As I got older and my body changed, I went from an A-cup to a C-cup in less than two years (thanks to hormones and depression, I gained about 50 pounds after my mom passed away and losing that weight has been a constant struggle for me since).

Keep in mind, this weight gain was in my early 20s. I am knocking on 30, now.

I am certain I have gotten tipsy at some point and referred to myself as a “late bloomer.” Honestly, that’s what I feel like — a late bloomer.

My chest isn’t huge, but it’s much larger than it was when I was 18, and I have spent the last few years searching for a bra that fits well, is comfortable, provides good support, and will last for a while.

I landed on one particular style at Victoria’s Secret — their Body by Victoria Perfect Coverage bra — about three years ago and now exclusively bra shop there.

That’s why I was less than amused by the sales woman’s comments on my undergarments. It took me a long time to find a bra that I was comfortable in, so sorry not sorry for rejecting your “sexy” recommendations because you think I’m too young for a full-coverage bra.

In her defense, though, she was referring to my “granny panties,” too. But that’s a story for another time.

What I love about these bras:

  • Comfort: They are made from the most buttery soft, comfortable material, and the cups are lightly lined with memory fit. Seriously, I don’t even mind wearing this bra all day because it is so comfy.
  • Quality: You get what you pay for — the quality of these is unmatched. I have owned bras from many other brands and they do not even compare. They last forever (well, maybe not that long, but I’ve been able to make the one I wear nearly every day stretch beyond the one-year mark).
  • Support: This is a full-coverage bra with a sturdy double-hook closure and adjustable straps, so your girls aren’t going anywhere. As long as you’re wearing your correct size, your boobs aren’t going to spill out of the cups, either. And, the band does not ride up your back — it remains securely in place all day long.
  • Shape: These bras create the most perfect shape. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but my boobs always look great whether I’m wearing a t-shirt or a dress, and I owe it all to this bra.

I try to catch these bad boys when they’re on sale so I can save a few bucks on them, but I find that if I buy two or three at a time, I am good to go for the rest of the year because they hold up so well.

When it comes to price point, I will say that these are on the higher end. I am willing to pay a little more for something that gives me exactly what I need, though. Especially when it is something I literally wear every day, and truth be told, I only bra shop once a year.

When I do bra shop, I always buy their “Almost Nude” color to wear under white tops. For me, it is the perfect shade for under my lighter shirts, and I always have one of these in my drawer, ready to go. I’ll spice it up with other colors occasionally; you know, mix in a red or black or blush pink from time to time.

I’m wild, y’all.

Truly, I cannot recommend this bra enough.

If you are frustrated with your current undergarment situation and are looking for something new, I suggest making a trip to VS and letting one of their sales professionals fit you for a new bra.

Then, try this one on in-store to get a feel for it. You will see what I’m talking about as soon as you put it on.
