My Husband,

We have spent the last 8 months preparing our home for a baby and amongst all the hustle and bustle, I’m afraid we have forgotten to prepare ourselves.

These next few weeks before we bring our first child into the world will be some of the most special and important days of our life together.

Thank you Katie Richard Photography for our winter maternity photos.

Very soon, life as we know it and have known it for the last 10 years will change in the most beautiful, exciting way.

Before that happens — before we become mom and dad — I want to make sure we spend this time focusing on the two of us.

More lazy weekends, more intentional moments, more dates, more snuggles, more meaningful conversations. Let us enjoy the freedom of being able to easily step out to a meal. Let us lay in bed a little longer, feeling the tiny human we created squirm within my belly and talking about our future with him. Let us not feel guilty for turning down social engagements so we can stay home and just be us while it’s still only the two of us.

This time is about you and me.

My husband, you are the kindest, gentlest, most patient soul I have ever met. Those qualities are what made me fall in love with you and make me fall in love with you again every day I have the privilege of waking up next to you.

I used to think that these qualities would make a perfect dad to little girls. I now realize that your kindness and patient, gentle ways are what will make you a great father, period.

I love you, my dear, and I am so excited for the weeks ahead with you. To watch you become a dad. To share this tiny, perfect human with you. To be your partner in this new adventure. But, for now, let us remember us. Let us nurture the love that created a son so he knows from the beginning what it looks like to have parents who put each other above all else.
