One day last week, while my baby napped, I got the urge to take everything off our kitchen counters.

From where I sit in our living room while I nurse Jack, I can see into our kitchen and the amount of stuff that had accumulated on our counters was driving me nuts.

I couldn’t stand looking at the clutter anymore. And by clutter, I mean decor, so it was a stress mess of my own doing.

With everything off the counters (and shoved onto our kitchen table), I felt much better.

The four days that followed — between newborn feeding and cuddling sessions — were spent trying to put our kitchen back together while retaining as few things on our counters as possible.

Then, this little spring cleaning project quickly spiraled into the need to clean out and reorganize our kitchen cabinets.

Why am I telling you this? Because in the process of ditching the junk we don’t need, I found a few hidden treasures tucked away in our cabinets.

As I placed these darling little pieces on my newly emptied counters, I realized that, paired together, they would make an adorable spring, garden-themed centerpiece for our kitchen table. And the best part is, this new centerpiece wouldn’t cost me a dime since I already own all the pieces going into it.

I started with a round basket I bought at Goodwill last year. As simple as it is, this basket is one of my favorite thrifty finds. I loved using it last summer to gather veggies from our backyard garden.

Since the basket was uneven on the bottom and I didn’t want any parts of my centerpiece to tip over or sit cockeyed, I placed another round mirrored tray within the woven basket. It worked perfectly to give my centerpiece an even base.

Wanting to stick to a garden theme, I added some clay pots. I even left some dirt in them to make them even more authentic to my theme.

My favorite additions to the centerpiece are the class domes. They are leftover decor from our wedding (they held our his and hers cupcakes). If you were recreating this look, it would be really cute to add some moss inside the domes! I only wanted to work with what I had on hand for this look or I absolutely would have done that.

To create some height to the styling, I pulled out a vintage copy of “Mrs. Peter Rabbit” and placed one of the domes on top of it.

When you’re working with multiples of the same item like I was with the domes, it looks best when you can stagger their height. Using books or stacks of books to add height is a great way to achieve this.

Plus, how perfect for my garden theme is this old book?

For a final touch, I added a small polka dot plant. Nothing says garden and spring in your home like live greenery.

There you have it! I hope this fun post inspires you to give new life to what you already own and create fresh looks when you feel like you need a change in your home!
