Summer is nearly upon us and we are preparing for a busy but fun one with lots of house guests.
I must have cried three times yesterday thinking about how badly I want to see my friends (most of them I haven’t seen in a year and a half). All I want to do is sit on our porch with a glass of Prosecco and talk to them in person, face-to-face. Luckily, I have several weekends to do exactly that in the works coming up over the next few months.
To prepare for visitors — which we haven’t really had since we moved to Raleigh — I am giving our guest bedroom the makeover it desperately needs. Nothing too wild, and certainly a budget-friendly redo.
The twin bed has got to go, though.
This room is small (10-feet by 10-feet) but has a tall, 9-foot ceiling and gets a ton of natural light. I intend to capitalize on those features while making the space inviting and cozy for our friends and family. I want it to be a room they can retreat to and feel utterly at home in.
Lately, I have been adoring the modern coastal room designs that are trending, and I believe I can incorporate some of those elements into this space without sacrificing our overall home style.
I have pulled together some inspiration to help guide my vision and am so excited to start working on this room. The most common elements I am drawn to from all my inspo are white rattan beds, oodles of cozy, neutral color pillows, light color linens, beachy but abstract art, natural fiber window shades, plants, and dramatic light fixtures.
Nearly all of that I can accomplish on a budget. To start, I already found a lovely queen bed on Facebook Marketplace. It actually has a beach vibe, but I intend to give it a facelift with cane webbing (stay tuned!). I also ordered a chandelier that is absolutely dreamy and will really pull the design together.
Other than that, the room is an clean slate. I will use some decor I already have, but for everything else I will mostly shop secondhand (as much as I can).
