I am a sucker for free sh*t. I probably say, “If it’s free, it’s for me,” at least once every day, and that is exactly how I got sucked into making my first purchase with Grove Collaborative.
I’m going to be honest with you. At the time I submitted my order, I had no idea what Grove was. All I knew was a bunch of people I follow on Instagram were talking about the website and Grove was offering a FREE four-piece gift set with your first purchase of $20 or more.
Well, naturally, I saw the word free and went straight to Grove Collaborative to place my order. I needed new cleaning supplies anyway and spending $20 on them wasn’t a lot of money … especially when there was free stuff on the line.
As I was shopping on Grove Collaborative, it occurred to me that all of the products they sell are from what I consider “better” brands — you know, the products with the pretty labels that are healthier, more sustainable, safer to use in your home, and kept on the higher-up shelves in Target. They’re generally a littler pricier than my go-to Lysol and Clorox brand items, so I tend to look past them when I’m in the store shopping.
But, like I said, I had free stuff on the line, and technically I have always wanted to try some of the products Grove sells.
I scoured the website; added $20 worth of products from brands like Mrs. Meyer’s and Method; got my free hand soap, hand lotion, dish soap, walnut scrubber sponges, and adorable stoneware tray; and I clicked “submit order.”
It wasn’t until the next day, when I was tinkering around on the Grove website again, that I realized this is actually a subscription service for household products. Basically, you schedule shipments of your favorite, most-used products and Grove auto-ships them (and auto-charges you) whenever your schedule designates.
Right now, I have seven products in my subscription, and all are scheduled to arrive every two months.
I was little skeptical when I first saw that I had actually signed up for (another) subscription service, and it wasn’t until my order arrived and I started using all my products that I became a fan of Grove Collaborative.
Here’s what I love about Grove and the products they sell:
Recurring, Customized Shipments
I just admitted to you that I was initially sketched out by the idea of having cleaning products automatically shipped to my house. That feeling quickly dissolved when I realized how easy it makes my life to have recurring shipments in place for products I use regularly. Plus, I can change, customize, and add new products at any time.
Clean(er) Products
You might remember my recent post about my husband and I trying to conceive. Because we are trying to get pregnant with our first baby, we have started making lifestyle changes to make ourselves and our home healthier.
It is now more important than ever to pay attention to what products I use around the house and reduce as many harmful chemicals as possible.
With an extensive list of brands, Grove Collaborative makes switching to cleaner, safer household products much easier.
Quality Products
It has always been my fear that switching to more natural cleaning products would mean sacrificing quality and effectiveness. Which is just silly.
When I was growing up, my mom cleaned our entire house with straight bleach. Therefore, it has been engrained in me that bleach is the best (and only) thing to use if you want your home to be cleaned properly.
How could natural, plant-based products possibly give me the same peace of mind as bleach?
It’s possible, folks.
So far from my order I have used Mrs. Meyer’s Multi-Surface Cleaner, Method Antibac Bathroom Cleaner, Method Daily Shower Spray, and Mrs. Meyer’s Cream Cleaner. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well each product works. Like, blown away, actually.
The Method Daily Shower Spray, in particular, is my favorite item from this order. I spray it on the wet surfaces in my shower after each use and it breaks down all of the grime so I rarely have to scrub the tub. Holy cow, this stuff actually does what it says it does. Plus, it is made using only six ingredients, and the eucalyptus mint version smells clean and refreshing.
Comparable in Cost
OK, so I’ve talked about easy, recurring shipments and cleaner, quality products as reasons I love Grove.
Now let’s jump into the real reason I’m hanging on to my Grove subscription: product cost.
You should know by now that I love a good deal (let’s be honest … I’m cheap), and Grove sells products at the same price or slightly cheaper than retailers like Target and Amazon. If I’m buying products I need and use regularly and I’m not paying more for them than I would some place else, why would I not use Grove? Especially when they make shopping so easy and they have such an extensive list of products to choose from.
Excellent Customer Service
Each Grove member gets a “Grove Guide” to help you select products and make sure you’re getting the best experience.
My Grove Guide is Caroline, and after I submitted my order, she sent me a personalized email welcoming me to Grove, telling me what she loved about all the items I selected, and letting me know that I can contact her directly if I have any questions or issues. How sweet is that? Talk about a high standard of customer service.
If you can’t tell, I am more than satisfied with my Grove Collaborative experience. And in the weeks since receiving my first order, I have had so much fun playing around on the website and shopping for an arsenal of new products to use when we move into our new house next month!
