Jack loves his books, and I wanted to give his library a proper display.

Seriously, this kid would rather sit down and flip pages than play with toys. That’s why we always tell friends and family to send books when they ask what they can get him (not that anyone ever has to get him anything, of course).

He got it honest, too. I talked in a previous post about my adoration of children’s literature, so it makes this mama’s heart happy to see Jack appreciate his books as much as I do.

With that being said, we’ve built up quite the collection of children’s books. I try to rotate them out every few weeks so we are regularly finding new favorites. And I love having our current rotation on display where we can easily see the covers.

That’s why I was adamant about having book ledges in Jack’s room.

I had every intention of building book ledges ourselves, but time was just not on our side. I wanted this project done ASAP so we could get Jack’s books off his floor.

Instead, I found these great solid wood four-foot long shelves to use as book ledges. The quality is top notch, and I love that they are natural wood so I can stain or paint them down the road if I choose.

I noted above that I change the display regularly so we have different titles to choose from and aren’t reading the same books over and over. When I take books out of the “rotation” I simply put them in Jack’s closet until we’re ready to display them again.

To style the shelves, I add three tall books to each (one book on each end and one in the middle). Then I fill in the gaps with smaller books until I achieve a look I’m happy with. It’s also worth mentioning that while I do enjoy styling these shelves with different books regularly, my efforts don’t last long since we actively read these titles daily. Everything will eventually get moved and shuffled around.

Still, I love the look of the ledges and love having a place for our favorite reads.
