We head into our 39th week of pregnancy this week and truth be told, I thought for sure our little dude would be here by now.
These last couple weeks before our due date have been the most difficult for me mentally because I am so ready for him to be here and my body is ready for him to be on the outside. I still plan to work until he arrives, but nobody ever tells you just how draining that is on you physically and mentally — especially when you work in an office environment.
Hopefully we don’t have to wait much longer, though.
As we wait, I am excited to share baby boy’s finished nursery! Justin and I have had such a wonderful time creating this space. It is as much for our son as it is for us since will spend a large part of our time at home in this room once he arrives. It was important to me to design an area that is calming and inviting to all three of us and that is free of sensory overload.
Full of neutral tones and natural accents, here’s what I came up with for our minimalistic nursery:

We kept it simple with the IKEA SNIGLAR crib. Cribs are incredibly expensive and I simply could not bring myself to spend upwards of $500 on one. Plus, the wood IKEA one fits perfectly with the aesthetic of the room.
The black and white watercolor plaid wallpaper accent wall behind his crib was a splurge but was worth the impact it has on the room, in my opinion.
His ABC rug and glider were gifts from our registry. The wall art above his crib is a DIY project I shared on the blog a few weeks ago.
Over the back of his glider, I draped an unfinished bow tie pattern quilt my great grandmother started many years ago (and I have kept). It was important to me to incorporate several special heirlooms and meaningful pieces into his room.
If you’re curious about the mini bottles of Jack Daniels on the shelf above the glider, they are favors from our baby shower. They include a darling note about celebrating with a shot once baby boy arrives. Next to the bottles is a sterling silver cradle with my husband’s birthdate and birth stats engraved on it.
I added a fiddle leaf fig to the space because it is a natural air purifier and helps promote sleep. The shelf on the wall above is one I already had but it fit perfectly with the rest of the room, so we moved it in here.
The massive window is a focal point of his room and allows tons of natural light to spill into the space (something I enjoy now but see being a problem as far as sleep is concerned).
Below the window we added three book shelves (which are actually the $5 IKEA BEKVÄM spice racks. I wanted to put them close to the floor so he can grab books on his own once he’s a little older.
Again, not wanting to overspend on nursery furniture but still wanting to have quality pieces that will last, we went with the IKEA TARVA 6-drawer chest for his dresser.
Since his room is small and we didn’t have space for a changing table, his changing station is on top of his dresser.
I decorated the area around his dresser with other special items I will enjoy seeing as I am changing and dressing our little guy. Those pieces include: a photo of Justin and I from our maternity shoot, a photo of my mom when she was pregnant with me, a copy of “King Midas & the Golden Touch” that I used to read with my great grandmother, and a needle stitch that says “somewhere over the rainbow” (I bought this last year just after I miscarried our first baby).
Now that his room is complete, all we have to do is wait for him to make his grand debut!
